Unplugging Access Points (Wi-Fi Devices)
Unplugging or removing access points or other equipment of Central IT is strictly prohibited.
Rationale
Wi-Fi coverage in all buildings of the University of Zurich is technically planned and precisely measured. Each access point is part of a coordinated overall system.
If an access point is removed or disconnected from the power supply, this can lead to connection drops, performance issues or Wi-Fi outages across the entire area or even throughout the whole building.
Removal of Unwanted Wi-Fi
If Wi-Fi is not required in a specific area, the removal will be coordinated by the Central IT Department:
| Building type | Removal procedure |
|---|---|
| Small buildings |
Complete removal of Wi-Fi |
| Medium-sized buildings | Removal by building section (wing) |
| Individual access points | No removal at this level |
Please contact the Central IT Department regarding such matters to ensure coordinated and secure implementation.
