PowerPoint – Recording a Presentation with Narration

  • You can create a PowerPoint presentation with spoken narration as a video and export it as an MPEG-4 or MP4 file.
  • All PowerPoint versions are supported, except PowerPoint 2016 for Mac.
  • If possible, use an external microphone for better audio quality.

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. Open your presentation and record a slideshow with audio in PowerPoint:

  2. Export the video in HD 720p (1280 × 720) quality:
    Save a presentation as a video in PowerPoint
  3. Check the result by playing the video after the export.

General Recommendations

  • Create video clips with a maximum length of 30 minutes (technical recommendation).
  • From a didactic perspective, units of no more than 10 minutes are recommended.

Publication of Recordings

Please do not upload your videos directly to Magnolia or OLAT (except via the Kaltura course element in OLAT). Instead, use a data protection–compliant video portal.

Not suitable: YouTube, Vimeo (not GDPR-compliant)

Publication

After uploading, you can publish your videos or playlists as follows:

  • in OLAT
  • on a website (via embedded code)
  • by sharing a link
