Instructions Regarding Planning, Ordering and Commissioning of the NUZ*

  1. Already the building planning, and later also the execution, is carried out under mandatory consideration of the Technical Guideline 236 Universal Communication Cabling of the UZH (see https://www.pbfm.uzh.ch/de/downloads/downloads-technik.html).
  2. The electrical planner drafts a UKV principle diagram of the building.
  3. ZI IT Infrastructure checks the UCT principle diagram and reports any discrepancies to the electrical planner so that he can correct them.
  4. ZI IT Infrastructure plans the network on the basis of the adjusted UCT principle scheme and obtains a quotation from a network switch supplier with whom a framework contract has already been tendered. After reviewing the offer, ZI IT-Infrastruktur submits it to the project management for ordering.
  5. The order to the supplier and installer of the switches must be placed at least 2 months before the planned first commissioning.
  6. The installation date agreed with the switch supplier and installer must be met. A postponement of the date cannot be easily absorbed by the supplier and installer (i.e. requires a new appointment to be made with possible waiting times). Rooms that do not comply with the specifications (cf. point 6.) will result in the cancellation of the installation and the making of a new appointment. The aim is to ensure that the switches are undamaged, which can only be guaranteed by consistently complying with the relevant specifications.
  7. The commissioning of the NUZ includes installation of the switches in the distribution boards, connections with pluggable cables (patching) as well as actual commissioning of the switches. Commissioning of the NUZ requires previously accepted, finally cleaned, lockable and cooled distribution rooms and cabinets (lockable only refers to room, not cabinet).
  8. The commissioning of floor distributors requires prior commissioning of the corresponding building distributor.
  9. Patching is carried out according to user requirements, i.e. their IT representatives provide a list of the sockets to be connected in their rooms before the NUZ is put into operation. For this purpose, the IT representatives of the institutes must either receive plans with marked sockets and/or have access to the rooms and be able to read the already installed connection signs.
  10. The UPS patch cables are ordered together with the switches and are supplied by the switch supplier. The UKV connection cables (user side) must be procured by the users themselves from UZH's material and logistics department. The fibre optic patch cables are supplied exclusively by ZI IT Infrastructure (advance order by switch supplier 1 month in advance).
  11. The commissioning of building services engineering (MSRL) and locking systems usually requires a running network, i.e. prior commissioning of the NUZ. If the NUZ cannot be commissioned before the building technology (MSRL) and locking systems are put into operation for time reasons, the switch supplier must install a temporary solution. This must be ordered when the switches are ordered. Since the provisional solution is expensive, as few switches as possible should be used and provisional connections should be set up between distributors using compensating cables. The electrical planner is responsible for planning the temporary solution.
