SWITCH edu-ID

SWITCH edu-ID is a universal, secure and personal digital identity for lifelong access to services in the university environment. The "SWITCH edu-ID" is mandatory at the University of Zurich for user registration for a all SWITCHaai proected services.

Create a personal SWITCH edu-ID and link it to the University of Zurich. This is the only way you can use the services offered in the long term. You can link to the UZH account at https://eduid.uzh.ch/linking/.

If you already have a SWITCH edu-ID account, you must link it to the University of Zurich.

The SWITCH edu-ID:

• provides a personal long-lasting account for accessing academic services in Switzerland
• can be used during and after your studies at UZH
• can be used during and after your employment at UZH
• offers a single account for all universities in Switzerland and for national services such as access to libraries

For multi-factor authentication, we recommend installing an authenticator app on your mobile phone.
Using an authenticator app is a secure method for multi-factor authentication and is independent of mobile phone coverage.
The previous options via SMS and telephone calls should be avoided.
On the one hand, these are no longer considered sufficiently secure and, on the other hand, people are dependent on sufficient mobile phone coverage.

A notice:

• Authenticator app (e.g. from Microsoft: Download or from Google: Download(Android) / Download (Apple), but other authenticator apps also work): The app must not be deleted after registration.
  Multifactor authentication must be confirmed regularly.
  The authenticator app must also be reconfigured after a device change.
