The UZH e-mail system is being converted from HCL Notes to Microsoft 365 (Outlook). The information on this page is aimed at Microsoft 365 users. Information on HCL Notes can be found at the link below:

Email and Collaboration


  1. outlook.office365.com
  2. Log in to the Microsoft 365 Portal (Infos here):
         Microsoft page: Enter your primary email address and Active Directory password angeben.
                UZH page: Enter UZH Shortname or primary email address and Active Directory password.
  3. Confirm the login request via Microsoft Authenticator app on your smartphone.

Progressive Web App (PWA)

If you find the desktop version of Outlook too cluttered, the slimmed-down browser-based desktop app "Outlook Web App" offers another alternative to webmail. In addition to allowing access via the taskbar, the app also offers improved caching and offline work and a variety of other features. The PWA requires MS Edge or Chrome.

Desktop App

Outlook is included in the Microsoft 365 package. Depending on whether you work on a computer managed by UZH ("managed client") or not, from the, you install the package from the Software-Center (employees, German only) with the Office 365 installer from the Office Portal (students).

To set up a new account in Outlook for Windows, select File, then Add Account, specify your primary email address and click connect. For the account type, select Microsoft 365. Finally, log in to the UZH page of the Microsoft 365 Portal with your UZH Shortname or primary email address. In Outlook for Mac, select Outlook > Preferences > Accounts and click the plus icon (new account) there.

IMAP Clients (e.g. Thunderbird)

To manually set up IMAP access, please select detect automatically for authentication.
After that, OAuth2 is available as an authentication method.
